Breaking the Ice

Considering that I am the ultimate techno-phobe, I am shocked to see I am the first to post a blog! I do not have anything class-related to blog about, I honestly just wanted to make sure I could handle this technological task. But while I am here, I will say I am really looking forward to this semester. We all come from such different backgrounds-which will undoubtedly provide some excellent food for thought. Here's to good conversation, improved research skills, and important conclusions on race-whatever our research interests may be.

Electronic Listservs

Can we post other academia-related stuff here? I was thinking about CFPs and sharing research ideas, etc. If not, please let me know and I will delete this post.

I was thinking about Professor Young's idea of joining a listserv, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. The ones that I am currently subscribed to are WMST-L and H-WOMEN, both of which are Gender Studies related lists. I find WMST-L pretty useful since there are always some interesting discussions going on here and also several calls for papers. I've also seen a lot of people ask for research or teaching-related help on this list. And the frequent WS-related job postings that I see on here make me feel a little better about my future job prospects(!) H-WOMEN is much less active as compared to WMST-L.

The moderator of WMST-L maintains a list of some gender-related lists and here it is: http://userpages.umbc.edu/~korenman/wmst/forums.html (some of the links are outdated).

So... any suggestions about interesting/useful lists to join? Particularly, anyone know of a good Cultural Studies-related listserv?
